Jim Bell tackles second place in Green Bay Walleye
Tournament
Green Bay Wisconsin -Using a slightly different
twist on an old play, Chilton Wi, walleye veteran Gary Parsons scored the
winning touchdown today in
/
"Bay Quest" here on Green Bay . Parsons outdistanced an elite field
of the nations top professional anglers the walleye worlds version of the
Green Bay Packers' front line by weighting the heaviest six-fish limit
brought to the scales during the Day three competetion on these world class
waters.Like most of the top anglers in this field, Parsons caught all of
his fish by trolling spinner rigs on Larson's Reef a popular Wisconsin
walleye hot spot. Parsons concentrated his fishing efforts to areas
where his electronics (sonar) revealed concentrations of larger walleyes.
Parsons' spinners (which he credited most of his success) were coated
with Palladium ( a high gloss coating)These spinners produce a lot more
flash than a normal chrome spinner, "Parsons told the press contingent.
"When you're competing with the massive quantities of shad ( the primary
forage for Green Bay walleyes), you must use a lure that gives off a lot
of flash like these bait fish."Parsons' day three weight was 36.71 lbs
earning him $8,571 in cash and a
Tournament Pro 170 boat,
EFI 150-horsepower motor and trailer valued at $20,000, making his total
purse worth $28,571.Finishing in the runner-up spot was veteran Jim Bell
of Blaine Minnesota Bell who fished completely different than many of the
anglers fishing in this "star studded" field. b Fishing barely more
than a mile from the boat ramp, Bell trolled
Rainbow spinner rigs in very shallow, muddy water. Bells day three
catch of 33.26 lbs earned him a total of $7,143Dale Sprouse a Blaine Minnesota
pro, finished in third place with a catch weighting 31.99 lbs. Sprouse's
third place finish earned him $6,249 in cash winnings."I discovered this
during practice when making the sweeping turns." Naig said at the press
conference. "When the outside board would speed up and start bouncing,
the fish seemed to respond to that particular llure."Top Ten Professional
