Ideal Christmas gifts
For The Sportsman
By Sam Anderson
Being on the Professional Walleye circuit I get asked a number of times
throughout the year what the ideal Christmas gift for the sportsmen might
be. To answer all the questions I finally one day sat down and made
a list of things that I thought I would like to have, or give to someone
on my gift list. After the first draft of my Christmas list was finished,
I went over it once or twice to make all necessary deletions and additions
made. As usual, the additions far outnumber those items found unnecessary.
This year, I've made a vow to do something different. In respect to
the upcoming Christmas season:
I have compiled a list of things that will make top-notch gifts for
the holiday season
-
First of all every sportsman needs new
line for his reels. Stren has made some excellent news line called Easy
Cast and sensor. This line makes an inexpensive gift for a child
or friend.
-
If you are looking for things for your spouse then the
Tour Edition IM7 rod is and excellent choice. Team this up with a
Quantum Hypercast reel and you have a combination. When your spouse
is not using this rod and reel it might be something that you will want
to use.
-
Next maybe even a pair of Cabelas hip boots or waders might be on the list
for both you and your spouse. These come in handy in the spring when wading
the streams for trout and smallmouth bass.
-
Don't overlook some great stocking stuffers like
jigs spinners and bottom bouncers or a worm blower for the tackle box and
Lures are always a good gift.
-
If you really want to buy a gift that keeps on giving then the new EX300CWG
walleye grade reel from
is a super bait casting reel and an ideal choice for serious walleye anglers.
The EX300CWG reel features a special trolling switch to instantly feed
line to light biting walleyes and instantly re-engages for hook sets.
-
Or you might want to purchase a
LMS 350 A ( Depth finder) so the whole family can see all the fish that
are down there. Plus this unit will provide you with features
like GPS that will allow you to get back to the dock after a long day on
the water.
-
When shopping for that sports person, listen to what they would like and
make a note of the things. Some things might have nothing to
do with fishing. For example, a good friend of mine would like
DeeZee running boards for his truck. Others, might like a warm light weight
rain suit to keep in the boat.
Most important thing to remember when considering a gift for the sportsmen
is to keep it simple and well within your budget. If you have a young child
allow them to make something for the sportsman. Remember the gift
is in the giving. It can be as simple as a carved whistle, or as
elaborate as a new boat motor and trailer. Whatever it might be the
ideal gift for your sportsman is within us all, just stop and think and
you will come up with the ideal gift.
