Michigan Walleye Tour Final Qualifier Linwood Results

The fourth and final qualifier was the highlight of Walleye Week at Hoyles Marina in Linwood July 11-19.  The final qualifier would determine the top 40 teams that will participate in the MWT championship in AuGres August 13,14,15.
For those who couldn't make it to Linwood, make sure you make room in next year's schedule as this very well could be the sportperson's event of the summer.  Tackle manufacturers, boat dealers offering test rides, celebrities, (Mark Martin put on a great presentation on Saginaw Bay tactics) as well as statewide media representation on "Press Day" offered everyone a "hands on" look at tournament fishing.  The week began with the Linwood classic and culminated with the final MWT qualifier.  What a week!
The team of Mike Wilga, Dave Uhall, Andy Uhall and Justin Uhall captured bragging rights for the Linwood Classic weighing 35.60 pounds and brought a 8.6 pound hawg in to take the $1000.00 first prize.  They fished near Pt. AuGres and used a combination of crawlers and Storm Hot-N-Tots.  Many of the MWT competitors were taking notes as teams explained how they took their catch.  It was a great warm up for the final qualifier.
Sunshine and flat water greeted the 98 teams in the MWT final qualifier on Saturday morning as the report was one could run anywhere and catch fish.  The question would be, where could teams catch the big females the bay is known for?  The team of Kaniszewski/Seiferlein took the early lead weighing in 31 pounds even.  Dunn/Dunn fished their way into second place weighing in 30.15 pounds.  Romanack/Holt were sitting nicely in third also positioned well to take team of the hear honors.
Sunday brought clouds and a two to four foot walleye chop.  These tournament boats eat these waves for breakfast but it did change some tactics as the long runs took longer and teams had to be more efficient with their time.  The weigh in on the second day left no doubt who the team of the year was.  Cameron Marple of Eaton Rapids and Robert Jones of Oak Park came from 8th place to win their second tournament of the year with a total weight of 54.80 pounds.  They fished the Charities using Pa's 100 to 120 ft. behind the board.  They took the $4400.oo first place check plus $500.00 for team of the year.  Second place went to Jerry Fox Sr. and Jerry Fox Jr. with a two day total of 50.80 pounds. They fished a huge school near Quanicassee in 8-12 ft. of water using spinners and snap weights.  Third place went to Rick Stevenson and Ron Kochanny with 46.19 pounds.  They fished 4-5 miles north of buoys 1-2 using Pa's.  Big fish for the tournament was wrestled in by the team of Kubasiak/Sowinski with a 9.15 beauty.

The MWT championship is shaping up to be a beauty as well.  Teams will have to work to knock off the undisputed champs in AuGres August 13,14, and 15.  We would like to thank Jan's Sport Shop, Wonderland Marine, Freeway Sports, Saginaw Power Sports, Franks Great Outdoors, FishTales Tackle and Roger Hoyle and Jim Detrich of Hoyles Marina for all their support. and wish them well in their clean up efforts.  They were very gracious hosts.  The next stop on the tour is the Aus Gres Saginaw Bay Championship on August 13, 14 and 15th Contact Nels Larsen at(517)832-3626 or e-mail nlarsen@tm.net.The Michigan Walleye Tour works with the following fine sponsors
