Walleye Fans Ready to Cheer PWT Pro
Anglers Fishing for $100,000 First Prize
Brainerd, Minnesota.....After a season of tournament
walleye fishing on the
In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail (PWT), 52 finalists from 14
states
qualified for the Mercury Championship in Bismarck. Pro anglers
from as far
away as Pennsylvania and Washington state will soon be heading to the
Missouri River. They will come from Canada, Kansas, Colorado
and the
traditional walleye states.
As individuals, they want to win the Mercury Championship
$100,000
first-place prize. They will net their catches on the river Sept.
12-14,
then drive inside the Bismarck Civic Center and be cheered by thousands
of
walleye fans. Entire families enjoy the stage spectacle and Sport
Show.
Leading the charge is the Miller/In-Fisherman Angler
of the Year John
Kolinski, Menasha, Wis. Also competing is last year’s Missouri
River
$100,000 Champion, Mike Gofron, Antioch, IL. The 1996 Champion,
Jim
Randash, Rapid City, SD, qualified as the top Dee Zee West Division
angler.
Ted Takasaki, Brainerd, Minn., 1998 Champion, placed second
overall this
season. Ron Seelhoff, Burlington, CO, is back. He won in
1999 and 2000,
and with three seconds and a fifth in the past six Championships has
the

Families and future anglers are special to the PWT.
The first 500 youth
through the Civic Center doors Thursday and Friday receive special
tackle
packs or Plano tackle boxes. On Saturday, Sept. 14, a total of
1,000
youngsters will receive free Silstar rods and reels. In addition,
the
Touchstone Energy Youth Fishing Experience in the adjacent Exhibit
Hall
includes numerous youth fishing instructional games.
All activities are geared so families can attend.
The Civic Center stage
show begins at 4 p.m. daily, and fans are encouraged to select their
seats
early. The Sport Show runs 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday,
and 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Both the Sport Show and the Civic Center
festivities are free of charge.
