PWT Anglers Set for Saginaw
Bay Walleyes July 31--Aug. 2
Brainerd, Minnesota....The mid-summer walleye action
is peaking on
Michigan’s massive Saginaw Bay. In-Fisherman Professional Walleye
Trail
(PWT) anglers will soon seek walleyes in 1,300 square miles of the
Bay and
Lake Huron.
Set for July 31 and Aug. 1-2, the Lund/PowerBait
Northeast Pro-Am will
headquarter at AuGres, Michigan. Trolling is a predominant pattern,
but
location is the key for these nomadic walleyes. Pros will search
during the
practice period. Their daily tournament amateur partners will
learn boat
control, the use of electronics, presentation methods, the secrets
of the
pros and how they rig for monster fish.
Of the total $250,000 purse, the winning amateur
will tow home a new
17-foot Lund boat with a Mercury outboard on an Eagle trailer, valued
at
$15,000. The winning pro will win a $53,000 prize ($20,000 cash
and a
Lund/Mercury/Eagle 20-foot rig). The Miller/In-Fisherman Angler
of the Year
$25,000 prize will be awarded. John Kolinski, Menasha, Wisconsin,
has a
21-pound edge going into the Lund/PowerBait Northeast Pro-Am.
Kolinski has collected three checks this season for
$25,500 so far,
including a couple of third place finishes. He won four checks
last season,
and has placed in the money every year he has fished the tour.
This is his
ninth year with the PWT, and third season fishing all six tournaments.
In
2000, he won the Sportsman of the Year title, an honor that is voted
upon by
his peers.
After three days of Saginaw Bay competition, the
top 10 pro anglers in the
Dee Zee eastern division will be invited to the Mercury Championship.
Also,
the top 30 pros fishing all six events will be invited to the
Championship.
“It’s all on the line at this one,” said PWT tournament director
Charlie
Moore. A few amateur openings still exist, and Moore reminds
any interested
anglers to contact PWT headquarters at 218-829-0620 for details.
Daily weigh-in activities Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday occur at Northport
Marina, just east of AuGres on Highway 23, and are free and open to
walleye
fans, starting at 3 p.m. A special Meet the Pros night has been
set for
Monday evening, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Town & County Lounge, just
west of the
marina. For fans unable to make it to the stage, follow along
with the
Mercury Real-Time Scoring on the web, www.in-fisherman.com. The
competitors
are also listed on this site.
