Consistency Helps Lotz and Daughenbaug Win

Held on Big Stone Lake, Lotz and Daughenbaug were in the lead on Saturday
weighing 22.65 pounds of walleyes and taking second in the big fish
pot with
a 7.2-pound walleye. With a nearly 5 pound lead over the next closest
team,
the team's biggest concern was to be able to weigh a full basket of
five fish on the second day.
According to Lotz, "Big Stone walleyes really turn on when the weather
is
lousy and the wind comes up. We felt lucky to have the fish we did
on
Saturday considering how nice and calm it was. When we launched on
Sunday,
the lake was still calm and we knew we would have our work cut out
for us".
"Our goal was to first get our five fish and then hope for a large kicker
fish to keep us in the running", added Daughenbaug.
By trolling shad raps and bombers in water less than ten feet plus slip
bobber fishing with leeches, Lotz and Daughenbaug weighed their five fish
on
Sunday for another 10.05 pounds, but weren't able to bring in their
kicker.
Coming in second was the team of Perry Nelson (Breckenridge, MN) and
Robert Proudfoot (Fergus Falls, MN). Using a combination of trolling with
shad raps and jigging with leeches in one to five feet of water, Nelson
and Proudfoot
weighed a total of 29.77 pounds of walleyes and received a check for
$ 5,133.70.
The third place team of Jim Hartman and Dan Sunne, both of Milbank,
South
Dakota weighed 29.17 pounds of fish by jigging in two to seven feet
of water
with leeches and minnows. They received a check for $3,703.70.
Wildlife Forever also presented a check for $1,430 to Citizens For Big
Stone
Lake, a local conservation organization. The money will be used to
reinforce
shoreline along the south end of the lake and prevent erosion.
