PIERRE, S.D. (July 3, 2003) – The Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League South
Dakota Division will wrap up its regular season July 19-20 for a $25,985
two-day Super Tournament on Lake Oahe near Pierre. As many as 150 boaters
and co-anglers are expected to compete in the event.
Competitors will take off both mornings from the
Lighthouse Pointe Golf Resort at 7 a.m., and Saturday’s weigh-in will also
be held there beginning at 3 p.m. Following Saturday’s competition, the
field will be cut to the top 15 boaters and co-anglers, and Sunday’s weigh-in
will be held at the Wal-Mart store located at 1600 N. Harrison Ave. in
Pierre beginning at 4 p.m.
Boater Division anglers will compete for a
top award of as much as $3,500 cash plus a $750 cash bonus if they are
the registered owner of a Ranger, Crestliner or Lund boat that is used
during the event. The winning boater is also eligible for an additional
$1,000 bonus from Garmin if he uses a fixed-mount Garmin Fishfinder or
combination GPS/sounder for a top pro award worth $5,250. The winning co-angler
will receive as much as $1,500 cash plus a $375 bonus if they are the registered
owner of a Ranger, Crestliner or Lund boat for a top co-angler award of

In Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League competition, boaters
and co-anglers are randomly paired and fish together for a combined boat
weight, with boaters competing against other boaters and co-anglers competing
against other co-anglers. Seventy-five boaters and 75 co-anglers comprise
a full field. Every angler who receives weight credit in a tournament earns
points, with 200 points awarded to the winner, 199 points for second, and
so on, except for Super Tournaments, which award 300 points to the winner,
298 to second, and so on.
Boaters and co-anglers who finish in the top 25
in final points standings in each RCL Walleye League division will advance
to the $88,000 RCL League Finals Sept. 6-7 on Lake Okoboji in Spirit Lake,
Iowa. The winning boater at the finals will receive an Evinrude-or Yamaha-powered
Ranger, Crestliner or Lund boat.
The success of the $3.07 million Wal-Mart RCL Walleye
Tour, featuring the world’s best walleye anglers and most lucrative payouts,
resulted in high demand for weekend walleye tournaments designed for working
anglers. Thus began the Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League, which comprises four
divisions – Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin – with three
regular-season events each. Two of the events are one-day tournaments featuring
a $20,530 payout followed by a two-day Super Tournament featuring a $25,985
payout.
