Pictured Top Three Teams from 2003 Illinois Walleye Governors Cup Tournament. Centered 1st Place Winners Mike Gibson Dryer, Indiana and Al Schrofer, Tinley Park, Illinois. 2nd Place (left) Rick Parrott, Sparland, Illinois and Mike Tatera, St Charles, Illinois and 3rd place (right) Buster Culjan, Princeton, Illinois and Mike Rutkowski, Illinois. The Illinois Walleye Trail started its 2004 Season with the 3rd Annunal Illinois Walleye Governors Cup Tournament October 4,5, 2003 in Ottawa, Illinois The winning Team of Mike Gibson, Dyer, Indiana and Al Schrofer Tinley Park, Illinois trolled crank baits for a combined weight of 14 pound 2oz. This earned them $3,200.00 plus a $1,000.00 certificate from Ranger Boats. Day one Mike and Al concentrated on the section of the Ottawa Pool where the Fox River enters the Illinois River with Lead core line and number 5 and 7 Shad Raps. There pattern consisted of 3 colors of lead running 2.3 mph with Pink being the color of choice and following the break line in 12/14 foot of water. On day two they continued with trolling but switching to 3 way's and long lining Bubble Gum reef runners, in the lower pool by Henry, Illinois at 1.2 mph. Second Place honors went to the team of Rick Parrott, Sparland Illinois and Mike Tatera, St. Charles, Illinois with 14 pounds and 1.5 ounces earning them $2,000.00. Placing third was Buster Culjan, Princeton, Illinois and Mike Rutkowski with 13 pounds and 6.5 ounces winning $900.00. The next Illinois Walleye Trail Tournament will be October 26, 2003 at Henry, Illinois.
