Iowa Regional Teams End Season at Prairie du
Chien
By Steve Weisman
Gander Mountain GNWC Publicity Director
After three highly competitive tournaments, the
Iowa Region of the
Gander Mountain Grand National Walleye Cup comes down to one last
tournament: the Mississippi River at Prairie du Chien on Sunday, June
20.
At stake for the 50+ teams will be the final shot
at claiming a Regional
Championship berth in mid-September at Spirit Lake and a National
Championship berth at Lake of the Woods in October.
Also on the line is the title of Iowa Region Team
of the Year.
Currently, Randy Mumm and Jim Juhlin from Clear lake, IA hold a 9 point
lead
over their nearest competitors Jesse Rousch from Clive, IA and Cory
Batterson from Pleasant Hill, IA.
GNWC Executive Director Bernie Barringer predicts
an exciting finish to
what has been a banner year on the Iowa Circuit. "Prairie du Chien
is a
great walleye fishery, and I know the teams are primed for this last
qualifier. These teams will put everything on the line as they try
to
qualify for both the Regional and National Championships."
Barringer noted that the high water levels will
be a significant factor
in the strategy the GNWC teams use. "Water levels on the Mississippi
River
have been high this spring, and
the walleyes are not in their typical summer haunts. It will be fascinating
to see who figures out the secret to finding the fish in these yo-yoing
water
level conditions."
Openings still exist for the Prairie du Chien qualifier,
and Barringer
encourages interested anglers to contact him at 1-800-890-FISH (3474),
or
email the GNWC at info@walleyecup.com. However, the tournament director
will
have the trailer at Villa Louis Park from 6-8 p.m. the evening before
the
tournament to take late entries and answer questions.
Teams are to meet at Villa Louis Park between 6-6:30
the morning of the
tournament for registration and mandatory boat check.
Take-off is at 7 a.m. with the weigh-in commencing
at 3 p.m. sharp. "We
hope a lot of people turn out for the weigh-in. I think people will
enjoy
watching the weigh-in as the drama of the final Iowa Region tournament
unfolds. Plus, it is a great opportunity to learn what presentations
that
triggered the fish to bite," added Barringer.
Anglers interested in checking out the standings,
reading the releases
about any of the eight regions or simply learning more about the circuit
can
access the Gander Mountain GNWC website at www.walleyecup.com.
Title Sponsor for the GNWC is Gander Mountain. Other
