FLW OUTDOORS WALLEYE LEAGUE CELEBRATES THIRD ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW NAME
BENTON, Ky. (Nov. 18, 2004) – The Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League – formerly
known as the Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League – will enter its third season
as the nation’s premier weekend tournament trail for walleye fishermen
with a 13-event schedule offering more than $450,000 in awards. The season
kicks off April 16 on the Detroit River in Michigan and wraps up Sept.
8-10 with the $100,000 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Finals on the Mississippi
River in Winona, Minn.
The 2005 FLW Walleye League will feature three divisions
– Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin – each feature three one-day tournaments
and one two-day Super Tournament to determine which anglers will advance
to the FLW Walleye League Finals based on year-end points standings. Every
angler who receives weight credit in a tournament earns points, with 200
points awarded to the winner, 199 points for second, 198 for third, and
so on except for Super Tournaments, which award 300 points to the winner,
299 for second, 298 for third, and so on. These points determine angler
standings.
One hundred boaters and 100 co-anglers comprise a full
field in each tournament. Boaters and co-anglers are randomly paired each
day and fish for a combined boat weight. Boaters compete against other
boaters, and co-anglers compete against other co-anglers. During one-day
events, winners are determined by the heaviest combined boat weight. During
Super Tournaments, boaters and co-anglers fish for one of 15 spots in the
final round. On day two, the 15 boaters and 15 co-anglers continue competition,
with winners determined by the heaviest two-day combined boat weight.
Winning boaters in FLW Walleye League competition can
earn as much as $4,000 in the $25,955 qualifying tournaments. They can
earn as much as $3,500 for the win plus a $500 bonus from Ranger Boats
if they are a qualifying Ranger owner. Co-anglers compete for as much as
$2,000 in qualifying events, with $1,750 awarded for the win and $250 given
to qualifying Ranger owners.
Super Tournaments will pay out as much as $34,945, including
as much as $5,250 to the winning boater ($4,500 plus a potential $750 bonus
from Ranger Boats). The winning co-angler can earn as much as $2,625 in
Super Tournaments ($2,250 plus a $375 Ranger bonus if contingency guidelines
are met). Cash awards are based on full fields in all FLW Walleye League
events, and Ranger owners receive bonus payments for finishing in the top
20.
At the $100,000 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Finals, the
top 35 boaters and 35 co-anglers from each of the three FLW Walleye League
divisions are randomly paired and compete for two days for one of 15 spots
in the final round. On day three, the final 15 continue competition, with
winners determined by their three-day combined boat weights.
Garmin awards the winning boater at each FLW Walleye League
event $1,000 if qualifying Garmin electronics were used exclusively during
the event.
Entry fees remain at $150 for boaters and $75 for co-anglers
at qualifying events and $200 for boaters and $100 for co-anglers at Super
Tournaments. (The Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Finals is a no-entry-fee
event.) Ranger owners may begin submitting entries at 8 a.m. CST Jan. 19.
Champion, Stratos and Skeeter owners may begin submitting entries at 8
a.m. CST Jan. 20, and all other entries will be accepted beginning at 8
