KERR, WALLACE WIN WAL-MART FLW WALLEYE LEAGUE EVENT ON DETROIT
RIVER TRENTON, Mich. (April 18, 2005) –
Boater Jason Kerr of Holly and co-angler Brian Wallace of Lambertville
combined for a total of five walleyes weighing 31 pounds, 10
ounces to claim victory at the Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Michigan
Division tournament held Saturday on the Detroit River. Kerr
claimed $2,345 for the win, with Wallace earning $1,173. The
winners caught their fish by vertical jigging jigs and 3-inch
plastic worms on rocks about 17-22 feet deep. They fished south
of the Grosse Ile Bridge. Kerr and Wallace won by more than
8 pounds. Tied for second with five walleyes weighing 23 pounds,
5 ounces were boater Rodney Nutt of Greenville ($1,105) and
co-angler Michael Gooding of Taylor ($553) and boater Gus White
of Saint Helen ($1,105) and co-angler Dave Hayes of Granger,
Ind. ($553). Tied for fourth with five walleyes weighing 23
pounds, 1 ounce were boater Dale Brindley of Granger, Ind. ($737)
and co-angler Lance Keene of Grand Blanc ($368) and boater Tony
Tierney of Westland ($737) and co-angler Andy Vanderweide of
Hudsonville ($368). The Michigan Division’s next event will
be June 11 on Houghton Lake. Boaters and co-anglers who finish
in the top 35 in final points standings in each FLW Walleye
League division will advance to the no-entry-fee $115,000 Wal-Mart
FLW League Finals Sept. 8-10 on the Mississippi River in Winona,
Minn. The winning boater at the finals will receive an Evinrude-or
Yamaha-powered Ranger 621 boat. Every angler who receives weight
credit in a tournament earns points, with 200 points awarded
to the winner, 199 points for second, and so on, except for
Super Tournaments, which award 300 points to the winner, 298
to second, and so on. FLW Walleye League boaters and co-anglers
fish together for a combined boat weight, with boaters competing
against other boaters and co-anglers fishing against other co-anglers.
