    Joliet team wins Illinois 2000 Team Walleye Opener

    Steve Skupien and Wally Neauman of Joliet Illinois  Out fish a field of 55 teams to take the Season opener of the Illinois USFA Team tournament trail. Weighting in a five fish limit of 11 pounds ten ounces at Henry Illinois on the Illinois River system
    Winds were out of the north and west at 10-15 mph.  Water temp of 61 degrees with very mild river currents.  Skes ranged from clear to cloudy with a light rain off and on. Steve and Wally were using lead head jigs tipped with minnows working the lower part of the river.  Placing second were Fred Treavors III and Rick Fritzinger of Washburn with 10 pounds 8 ounces. Third place was the team of Bruce and Gary Merkel of Spring Valley  with 10 lbs. 6 ounces.   Rounding out the top five was Glenn Pyle and Jeff Tartol of Norridge Illinois with 9 lbs .6 ounces in fourth and Joe Miller and Rick Taylor of Elgin Illinois and in fifth place with 7 lbs. 1 ounce

    Big fish honors went to the team of John Molzof and Steven Rudd of Coagerville Illinois  with a 3 lb. 11 ounce sauger

    There were a total of 168 fish caught and released during the tournament  for a total of 267 pounds and an average weight of  1.58 lbs. With a total of twenty teams weighting in a five fish limit in this Ranger Building one boat at a time sponsored tournament

    Big fish paid $520
    Payout first thru 8th place 1st place $1200

    The next Illinois team tournament will be held November 14 1999 on the Illinois River at Spring Valley Illinois

    Lansing Illinois team wins Illinois  Team Walleye November Tournament

    Tim Horneman  and Dan Grapenthiew of Lansing  Illinois  Out fish a field of 61 teams to take the November 1999 Spring Valley tournament of the Illinois USFA Team tournament trail. Weighting in a five fish limit of 14 pounds eight ounces at Spring Valley Illinois on the Illinois River system  Tim and Dan were fishing downstream of Hennepin, slipping with jigs and minnows.
    Winds were out of the south gusting to 25 mph.  Water temp of 53 degrees with very mild river currents.  Skies were clear .  Placing second were Mike Actis  and Mike Stuckert  of Spring Valley with 13 pounds 15 ounces. They also took big fish honors with a 5 pound nine ounce walleye.  Third place was the team of Rory Barconi and Dominic Culjan of Spring Valley  with 13lbs. 3 ounces.   Rounding out the top five was Steven Hunter and Don Farrell of Ottawa Illinois with 12 lbs .14 ounces in fourth and Bill Walsh of Ottawa Illinois and Ron Cutright of Hudson Illinois  in fifth place with 12 lbs. 6 ounce
    There were a total of 198 fish caught and released during the tournament  for a total of 378 pounds and an average weight of  1.90 lbs. With a total of twenty-four teams weighting in a five fish limit in this Ranger Building one boat at a time sponsored tournament

    Lance Litviak and Andy Pogorzelsk win December Illinois  Team Walleye  Tournament by pulling cranks above Spring Valley

    United States Fishing Association Team Walleye completed its third qualifing tournament of the 2000 season on Sunday, December 12, 1999, on the Illinois River.    62 teams participated catching and releasing alive 232 fish, for a total weight of 463 pounds.  That makes for an average of 1.99 lbs per fish which proves that the Illinois river is one fine fishery close to Chicago with the ability to provide quality fish.  Temperature for the day peaked at 42 degrees with a light wind.  The current has picked up on the river since the last tournament  and the water temp was around 42 degrees. 31 teams brought a limit of 5 fish to the scales.    Winning the tournament was Lance Litviak, from Orland Park, Illinois and his partner Andy Pogorzelsk from Bartlett, Illinois with a 5 fish limit of 15 pounds and 6 ounces.  Lance and Andy caught thier fish upstream from Spring Valley, pulling crank baits. They also took big fish honors with 4 pounds 12 ounces.  Second place honors went to Dan Frericks, and Robert Rachowicz of Peoria with 15 pounds 5.5 ounces.  Dan and Robert fished downstream of Spring Valley, primarily slipping with the current using jigs, tipped with minnows. Third place honors went to Mark Mereavy, of Shorewood, Illinois and Dave Zurawski, of Shorewood, Illinois with 14 pounds and 3.5 ounces.  Rounding out the top five are Rick Parrot, Sparland, Illinois and Dan Vinovich, of Pekin with 14 pounds and 3 ounces for fourth place.  In fifth place was Steve Skupien, of Joliet, Illinois, and Wally Neauman, with 13 pounds and 5.5 ounces.

    United States Fishing Association Team Walleye, Illinios Division, conducted its fourth qulifing tournament for the 2000 season. They participated from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois, for a total turn out of 85 teams.  Dominic Culjan, from Ottawa, IL  and Rory Barconi, from Spring Valley, won the tournament with a five fish limit weghing in 19# and 5 ounces.  They were fishing down stream from the launch site.  Presentation consisted of pulling three ways with minnows.  They also took big fish honors with a  5# 3.5 ounce sauger.  Placing second was the team of Mark Meravy, and Dave Zurwaski, for Shorwood Il. with a five fish limit of 18# 8.5 ounces.  Finishing third was Lance Litvak and Andy Pogorzelski from Orland Park, Il  with 17# 8.5 ounces.  Rounding out the top five in fourth place was the husband and wife team of Jerry and Kaye Tipping from Milton, Wisconsin.  with 16# 10 ounces, and in fifth place from Glen Dale Heights, Illinois, was Joe Miller and Rick Taylor.  There were 56 teams that brought a limit of saugers to the scales, there were 219 female saugers, 119 male saugers,  and 6 walleye total caught, and released alive during our tournament.  Total pounds for this tournament was 834 which averages out to about 2 and a half pounds per fish.  The next Team walleye event for Illinois will be April 9, 2000 at Spring Valley, Illinois.  If you need any information please contact Bob Kidd at (309) 527-6328, or email at Walleye@elpaso.net

    On Sunday April 9, 2000 50 teams from the United States Fishing Association converged on this city of Spring Valley for the Illinois Division of Team Walleye. Teams were represented from Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois to earn points for qualification into the National Championship in September on Devils Lake, North Dakota. The team of Walleye Neumann (from Joliet) and Mike Herz Morris outpaced the field with a five fish limit of saugers weighing 15 pounds and 2 ounces. Wally and Mike were using the old true tested jig and minnow combination downstream from the launch site.  Placing second was the brother team of Gary and Brucd Merkel (from Spring Valley) with a five fish limit totalling 14 pounds and 15.5 ounces. Coming in third with a five fish limit was Andy Pogrzelski and Lance Litvak (from Orland Park) with 13 pounds and 10 ounces. Rounding out the top five was Guy Lopez and Paul Kimock with 13 pounds and 9.5 ounces in fourth and Steve Lotz with partner Dave Daughhenbaugh (from Lena) with 11 pounds and 9.5 ounces. Steve and Dave also had big fish of the tournament with a 3 pound 11.5 ounce sauger. During the tournament a total of 145 fish were caught weighing 270 pounds. The Illinois State hatchery personnel gathered all the fish for the rearing ponds. There they will be maintained and spawned out for release back into the river system. All of the fish were gathered alive.
