Lance
Litviak and Andy Pogorzelsk win December Illinois Team Walleye
Tournament by pulling cranks above Spring Valley
United States Fishing Association Team Walleye completed its third qualifing
tournament of the 2000 season on Sunday, December 12, 1999, on the Illinois
River. 62 teams participated catching and releasing alive
232 fish, for a total weight of 463 pounds. That makes for an average
of 1.99 lbs per fish which proves that the Illinois river is one fine fishery
close to Chicago with the ability to provide quality fish. Temperature
for the day peaked at 42 degrees with a light wind. The current has
picked up on the river since the last tournament and the water temp
was around 42 degrees. 31 teams brought a limit of 5 fish to the scales.
Winning the tournament was Lance Litviak, from Orland Park, Illinois and
his partner Andy Pogorzelsk from Bartlett, Illinois with a 5 fish limit
of 15 pounds and 6 ounces. Lance and Andy caught thier fish upstream
from Spring Valley, pulling crank baits. They also took big fish honors
with 4 pounds 12 ounces. Second place honors went to Dan Frericks,
and Robert Rachowicz of Peoria with 15 pounds 5.5 ounces. Dan and
Robert fished downstream of Spring Valley, primarily slipping with the
current using jigs, tipped with minnows. Third place honors went to Mark
Mereavy, of Shorewood, Illinois and Dave Zurawski, of Shorewood, Illinois
with 14 pounds and 3.5 ounces. Rounding out the top five are Rick
Parrot, Sparland, Illinois and Dan Vinovich, of Pekin with 14 pounds and
3 ounces for fourth place. In fifth place was Steve Skupien, of Joliet,
Illinois, and Wally Neauman, with 13 pounds and 5.5 ounces.
The next Illinois team tournament will be held March 12, 2000 on the
Illinois River at Spring Valley Illinois
