Hi All,
Here we are just a couple of weeks away from the end of the Walleye
and
Pike season. I'll be pulling my shack in a few days, so this will
be my
last hard water report of the season. Ice conditions on Vermilion
are
excellent. With just a few inches of hard packed snow on the ice
surface, getting around has been very easy.
The Walleye and Perch action has been slow with just a few
exceptions.
I'm still getting most of my fish very early in the day and
just before
sun down. Small glow jigs and spoons have given way to a plain
red
hook, tipped with small sucker minnows. I'm fishing in 28 to
32ft over
a mainlake transition area, adjacent to a rocky mainlake island
point.
I have had a few large Walleyes come to my holes the last few
days,
including a very nice 28.5 incher that weighed in at 9.5 lbs.
The Pike action was a little slower this week than it has been.
The
deep weed edges have slowed down a bit. I'm still doing pretty
well
along the shoreline breaks in 6 to 14ft. Long points with scattered
boulders have been very good as of late. Tip-ups with a quick
strike
rig and tipped with a medium sucker or frozen smelt have been
my go to
rig all winter.
Enjoy the rest of the ice fishing season all you die hards.
I'll be
busy getting ready for the open water and the Minnesota Muskie
Expo in
Blaine. The dates for this years Expo are March 7th, 8th and
9th.
It will once again be at the Nation sports center in Blaine
Mn. I'll be
there with a few Bailey pacs and some great new baits for catching
those
big Vermilion Muskies.
I hope you'll come and see me at the show.
Ace <*)))><
