A New Bag of Tricks for Walleyes
By Sam Anderson
One of the easiest ways to catch your limit of walleyes is to
have everything under control. If you are not prepared to keep things
in order you might miss out on a trophy of a lifetime.
Starting with my rods, I use Rod Control Rod Socks. Each of my
rods are sheathed into a nylon sack that fits snugly around my pole when
placed in a rod locker. I don't care what type of rod locker you
have, when you put a number of poles into it they get tangled up.
Therefore, all my poles have the Rod Control Rod
Socks around them to keep them free from tangle and ready to
use when I want them.

stay on your rod, even during long runs across
the water. |
They are available for two piece rods and all
the way up to 8.5 feet in length. |

My Rod Control Socks are placed in either my Rod
Bags or my Rod Bag Deluxe. My RBS -100 is a soft
sided rod and reel carrying bag that holds 2 to 4 rod and reel combinations
with Velcro straps inside for securing rods in place and a sturdy handle
for carrying the bag. The bag is perfect for long trips from home
to the cabin and can be used as a storage bag in the off season.
While in the boat the RBS-100 fits nicely into a rod locker or along the
gunwales of any boat.

The New Rod Bag comes in two sizes
A soft sided rod and reel carrying bag that holds 2 - 4 rod/reel combinations
in the RBS-100 size
and 6-8 rod/reel combinations in the RBD 100 size.

It I want to carry more rods I will simply put them in the Rod Bag Deluxe.
It is made with heavy duty soft sided nylon and can carry 6 to 8 rod and
reel combinations. Just like the previous mentioned RBS-100 it also
has Velcro straps inside for securing rods in place and a sturdy handle
for carrying. But, it has the added features of a shoulder strap
and two exterior pockets for extra fishing line, tackle or pliers.
One way that I have solved the problem with boat control is by using
a sea anchor. Drift Control Sea Anchors aid boat control in two ways.
First of all, they slow your drift in strong winds. Secondly, you
can use them to fine-tune subtle boat maneuvers in rough seas or heavy
current.
The Standard Series Drift Control sea anchor tapers from a large opening
to a small exit aperture. It is constructed from durable coated nylon,
with four full length 1 inch nylon tow straps. Flotation and bottom weights
are sewn in for fast deployment and no rotation. These drift bags or socks
come in various sizes ranging from the DC 25 to the DC 60. They will
handle a boat as small as a canoe, all the way up to a boat that is 20
feet long.
The Drift
Control Tournament Series are cylindrical in design and constructed
from rip stop nylon. The series 20 has four foot full length tow straps
made of one inch nylon; The 30 series has six for extra strength and stability
for larger boats.
The rear aperture may be adjusted from an open to a closed position,
or anywhere in between. (all from within the boat!) It is easy to retrieve,
but not necessary when you want to make another pass. The innovative stiffened
upper cylinder of floatation material and bottom weights allow it to open
quickly and not rotate. Both have non-corrosive "O" rings and brass grommets.
New for this year is Magnum
Drift Sock - MS100. It is intended for boats up to 20 feet in
length and has many refined features. For example, the bag is made
of a rigid coated rip stop nylon guaranteed never to rip or tear.
It has a continuous floatation sewn in across the top of the sock for instant
opening and a weight sewn into the cone and the bottom of the large aperture
to assist in easy deployment. It also has the Drift Control Harness
Buoy and a dump line in the package.
Once you know that you have your equipment under control all you have
to concentrate on is the fishing. With the confidence that the Drift
Control Containment System has to offer, you will find that spending more
time on the water will up your chances of catching that trophy walleye.
Whether you are fishing a river, lake, reservoir, vertically jigging, trolling
or tossing crankbaits, you will be in control if you use the Drift Control
Containment System. These are some of the newest bags, but the tricks for
catchin' walleyes are under your control. For more information on
these new products look at www.driftcontrol.com or if you want to talk
about other walleye techniques you can drop me a line at www.samanderson.com.
