LAST UPDATE 05/29/01 In Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail / Evertrol Central Pro-Am. Lake Mille Lacs Garrison Minnesota May 23-25 2001 CHANGE NOTICE TO CONTESTANTS & MEDIA LOWRANCE--EVERTROLL CENTRAL PRO-AM MAY 23 - 24 - 25, 2001 The Lowrance - Evertroll Central Pro-Am originally scheduled for Red Wing and the Mississippi River has been relocated to Lake Mille Lacs. Due to the continued Mississippi River flooding at Red Wing, and the prospects that it will still be high by tournament time, In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trial (PWT) officials decided to conduct the tournament on Lake Mille Lacs. Headquarters will be in Garrison, Minnesota, on the northwest corner of the lake. Dates are the same, with practice fishing beginning Friday, May 18. Tournament dates remain May 23 - 25. Tournament headquarters will be at Phil's Myr-Mar Marina. Dozens of resorts, cabins and motels are nearby. A list will be posted on the PWT web site at www.in-fisherman.com. The area also has numerous bait and tackle shops and restaurants. One item that newcomers to Mille Lacs may want is the King Tutt's Mille Lacs Walleye Whiffer map (with GPS coordinates and great info). Call Tutt's at 320-692-4341, and order a copy via the phone. Or, pick one up in Garrison when you arrive. The PWT registration will be in the tent at Myr Mar Marina. Most service support trucks will be set up in this vicinity, also. Watch for the weekly schedule and specific details regarding the rules meetings. Persons interested in being added to the amateur alternate list should contact PWT Headquarters at 218-829-0620, or download an entry blank from the PWT web site and FAX it to PWT at 218-829-3091(FAX number). Contact the PWT for further information at pwt@in-fisherman.com. Professional Anglers May 23-25 Brainerd, Minnesota....After a six-year absence, the In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail (PWT) returns to Lake Mille Lacs. Perhaps the best known and most-intensely managed Minnesota walleye hot-spot, the lake's 130,000 acres boast walleyes of all year-classes, including many of gargantuan proportions. "Mille Lacs is one of my favorite lakes; I like the thrill of catching those monster walleyes, and I can do it my way," said Perry Good, Eagan, MN, Mille Lacs winner in 1995. He said he will try the north-end sand flats for males, check out the rock reefs if the wind blows, and concentrate on the mud-flats for the big fish. The /Evertroll Central Pro-Am pits the best walleye anglers against the fish, all at the same time, May 23 - 25, and under the same conditions. The pros are paired with amateurs for the maximum boat weight. Under restricted PWT rules, the partners may catch only two walleyes over 28 inches and four from 16 to 20 inches, or all six may be from 16 to 20 inches. Minnesota regulations permit each angler a total bag limit of six "slot" walleyes with one over 28 inches per day. The PWT anglers begin their search patterns Friday, May 18, depending on their skills to locate fish for the $250,000 payday after three competition days. The winning pro will collect $50,000 including a Lund 20-foot boat, Mercury 200-hp outboard and Eagle Trailer. The top amateur wins a Lund 17-foot boat and Mercury outboard. The top 40 contestants win cash and/or merchandise prizes. The Mille Lacs tournament was booked only weeks ago after tournament officials moved from the flooded Mississippi River in Red Wing. Hosting the event is the Garrison Commercial Club and Phil's Myr Mar Marina on the lake's northwest corner. This is the third leg of the popular PWT circuit. After two events,
pro Tommy Skarlis, Walker, MN is leading the In-Fisherman Angler of the
Year race, followed closely by pro Kim Papineau, Escanaba, MI. The
Angler of the Year receives a Mercury OptiMax outboard valued at $12,000
if he has run a Merc all year long (more than 85 % of the pros run Mercury)
and $10,000 from In-Fisherman.
June 27 - 29, Lund Western Pro-Am, Lake Sakakawea, Beulah/Hazen, ND
