SPAID WINS WAL-MART RCL WALLEYE LEAGUE SUPER
TOURNAMENT ON LAKE OAHE
PIERRE, S.D. (July 21, 2003) – Boater Dave Spaid of Pierre claimed $2,753
plus a $750 bonus as winner of the two-day Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League
Super Tournament held this weekend on Lake Oahe. Spaid caught 12 walleyes
over two days that weighed 27 pounds, 12 ounces to claim his first RCL
League victory at the South Dakota Division event.
Spaid trolled a bouncer with a crawler in main-lake
points in 27 to 31 feet of water to catch his tournament-winning walleyes.
He led the tournament Saturday with six walleyes that weighed 15 pounds,
12 ounces. He followed that up Sunday with another six walleyes that weighed
12 pounds to win the tournament by a 2-pound, 9-ounce margin.
Rounding out the top five boaters were Kenneth Johnson
of Fort Pierre (12 walleyes, 25 pounds, 3 ounces, $1,573); Dan Stier of
Pierre (12 walleyes, 24 pounds, 10 ounces, $1,180); Rolfe Behrend of Brookings
(12 walleyes, 24 pounds, 4 ounces, $983 plus $300 bonus); and Robert Wordeman
of Hermosa (10 walleyes, 24 pounds, 4 ounces, $787 plus $250 bonus).
Sidney Anderson of Pierre won the Co-angler Division
and $1,180 plus a $375 bonus thanks to a two-day catch of 12 walleyes weighing
28 pounds, 3 ounces. Anderson led the Co-angler Division both days, catching
six walleyes Saturday that weighed 15 pounds, 12 ounces and following that
up Sunday with another six walleyes that weighed 12 pounds, 7 ounces. He
caught his walleyes using bottom bouncers and spinner baits around main-lake
points.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Bob Stalley
of Pierre (12 walleyes, 25 pounds, 3 ounces, $787 plus $250 bonus); Brad
Richards of Pierre (12 walleyes, 23 pounds, 12 ounces, $590); Gary Kafka
of Pierre (12 walleyes, 23 pounds, 10 ounces, $492 plus $150 bonus); and
Robert Adsem of Cincinnati (12 walleyes, 23 pounds, 5 ounces, $393).
Bonuses are awarded to boaters who are the registered
owner of a Ranger, Crestliner or Lund boat and fish out of that boat during
the tournament. Co-anglers earn bonuses if they are a registered owner
of a Ranger, Crestliner or Lund.
Boaters and co-anglers who finish in the top 25
in final points standings in each RCL Walleye League division will advance
to the $88,000 RCL League Finals Sept. 6-7 on Lake Okoboji in Spirit Lake,
Iowa. The winning boater at the finals will receive an Evinrude-or Yamaha-powered
Ranger, Crestliner or Lund boat. Every angler who receives weight credit
in a tournament earns points, with 200 points awarded to the winner, 199
points for second, and so on, except for Super Tournaments, which award
300 points to the winner, 298 to second, and so on.
Jim Tencate of Sioux Falls ranks first in 2003 South
Dakota Division points standings with 667 for the season, and Anderson
earned No. 1 co-angler status with 693 points for the year.
