Fishing Reports from around the countryUpdated: 03/05/01Dennison, Ohio Mississippi River Report James Holst Moving Waters Guide Service www.movingwaters.net 507-280-6399 Pool 4 Report This warm, stable weather has made for some fine action on pool 4 near Red Wing. Pulling cranks, long-lining, was the ticket on Monday and numbers of nice fish in the 17"-20" range seemed to be willing and scattered just about everywhere from Evertt's Resort, south to the head of the lake. Raps and wally divers in craw, orange/black, perch were the ticket today. 7-11 feet was the most consistent depth through the day. Caught my first sheephead of the year-no trip'sperfect! Water was up and muddied slightly but nothing that will hinder success. Look for the bite to fall gradually down towards and into the lake over the next two weeks as the water continues to warm. There's still an incredibleconcentration of male 'eyes near the dam but there's also a noticable decline insize in that area as well. I'm on the water several days later this week so look for an update then. Lake Erie and lake St Claire charters by Captain Tom Arlington 1/08/01 Ice fishing has begun on the shallow bays and canals on Lake St.Clair. Fishermen remember that safe ice is a minimum of 4 inches thick. Panfish and Pike hot spots at early season are as follow: Bouvier Bay in the Northeast corner of Anchor Bay produces some fast action at first ice. Perch, Bluegills, Seeds, Crappie, and Sunfish are all available. The Perch and Crappie prefer minnows as bait while the others prefer grubs with tear drop hooks. I like using silver Russian hooks tip with a larva grub for Perch. If the fishing is furious, forget the grub and use no bait. Place a small red glass bead over a pinched barbed hook instead of bait. The key is to jig the bait constantly. Movement is important! The Pike fishermen do well on tip-ups baited with Golden Shiners 3 to 4 inches in size. Pike spearing is another good choice in the bay. Another hot spot is the many canals that lead into the bay. These canals, early in the ice fishing season get a nice run of Perch and Panfish. Ask for permission for assess if needed and keep the area clean. Fishing can be good. When the ice conditions become safe try fishing near Cotton Road. This can be top notch for Perch. Access is usually at the D.N.R. Selfridge site. Pike fishing and spearing is available here as well. If you are catching Perch the Pike are usually somewhere else. If the perch stop biting, Pike have moved into your fishing area. This is time to move and find the Perch again or bring out the spear for some old fashion fun. I still think a big old Pike moving through your ice hole is as exciting has watching a deer moving through the woods. Capt. Tom

pretty good around the reefs in the Western basin, Bass Islands, Catawba

lipless cranks vertically jigged.(trick) tip your blades & cranks with
shiners, it works! water temp 38f, Air temps forecasted to warm into
the 60's this week will surely bring out the anglers and warm up the fishing

small boat anglers use your bow mounts & electronics to locate and
hold over pockets of active fish and then have some fun. Don't forget the
